As a kid, I was absolutely certain that I would never, ever get a tattoo or a “tramp stamp”. I’d see all my school friends getting a butterfly across their backs or something equally as tacky, and I was determined that I would never walk into one of those “chavvy” tattoo parlours and pick an ugly flower off the wall – something that twenty other people would already have.

I’m glad to say that I still haven’t done that, when I went to get my tattoo, I did it so that when someone says to me “nice tattoo”, there is actually a good story behind how and why I got it. I’m also very proud of my tattoo and wouldn’t ever regret it – yay!

It started in Thailand, there were lots of cool tattoo shops around and the thought began to creep up on me – maybe I should get a tattoo! My sister Leah and I had been in Thailand for about a week and had just travelled to Koh phangan for the full moon party there. I had broached the subject with my sister, firstly asking her how much she thought a tattoo might cost over here and wether or not she thought I’d suit one.

I was gob smacked when she said that she thought it would be a cool thing to do and something to remember our awesome trip by – I still maintain that our trip was the most fun I have ever had and can’t wait to get back to Thailand! Leah even considered a tattoo herself but was too indecisive on what type of design she would like and where, so she ditched the idea and turned her attention to mine.

Living out of backpacks, we scrabbled around for a small piece of paper and began to draw sun designs. Hilariously hungover having just got home from the full moon party and sat on the porch of our beach huts, we drew some awful pictures! After giving up our designing, we took a cab into town and asked for some help with the design, we found a guy who sorted it out for us and the rest is history!
